		Dates: Friday 1st - Monday 4th June 2007 The Place: Devon Cliffs Holiday Park, Sandy Bay, Exmouth, Devon Hosts: Enrique Perez and the Salsa Explosion Team BEAUTIFUL, AUTHENTIC CUBAN SALSA, BODY MOVEMENT AND RHYTHMS ARE ALIVE AND WELL IN THE SOUTH WEST, COURTESY OF ENRIQUE PEREZ AND THE SALSA EXPLOSION TEAM. This was a weekend to learn from the best, including Rueda and UK Salsa Champion Osbanis Tejeda on his first gig back in the UK and Damarys Feres, Cuban School of Arts. Sessions with these guys were electric. They are two of the best exponents of the art of moving to Latin rhythms with beauty, grace, naturalness and urgency. This was just the place to learn, chill out, experience and just feel the heat of the Cuban vibe. The line up included Cuba’s Cesar, bachata with Tony Lara and Daniela Francesco and top Cuban DJ Javier de la Rosa. With beautiful views and an unbelievably blue sea and skies, it was a crime to leave on Monday. Silver standard caravan accommodation was what an estate agent would call “bijou” - definitely no room for lobbing around your feline friend. It’s a BYO breakfast/meals but everything in the kitchen worked so take plenty of rum, Pot Noodle or whatever floats your boat. 	Perfect Pleasure and Pain at the Upstairs Club in S Croydon

	The Upstairs Club at the Treehouse in South Croydon is one of those places that only goes to prove salsa dancers are salso-masochists whose hobby calls for the pleasure and the pain. Every Thursday, the Upstairs Club at 78 South End, South Croydon, is jam packed. The place is kicking; it’s 100 per cent, pure, concentrated vibe. First and foremost, there’s the music. DJ Marquitos knows and lurves his music and plays stonking hard core salsa non stop ‘til midnight. Mike Hylton runs ongoing introductory and advanced rueda courses there. These video clips of rueda moves will help you stay ahead of the others! *Yuk yuk yuk!* This plus Michael’s advanced rueda class gets the place rocking from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. While teachers Niko Valiente, Alexandre Amoroso and head bananas Phil and Mandy strut their funky stuff. Like the Buddha said, salsa is suffering. The place is so hot it's the biggest single factor in melting the Polar ice-caps. It's so small I carry it around in my back pocket and get it out on a Thursday evening just so they can use it for the club....

		For the freestyle, you attach wing-mirrors to either side of your head and get excited when a small patch of floor opens up with no one on it. It’s absolutely gob smackingly wonderful. No drugs. No alcohol. Pure pleasure and pain…. perfect. Ed. Class £7: Club only £3.

If this is salsa dancing, I just wonder what the rest of us are doing. Jaw-dropping musical interpretation in a solo performance from Cuba’s Israel Gutierez at the Hamburg Salsa Congress to the inspired, driving, frenetic beats of Timba masters, Los Van Van.
